General Position Description:

This position is responsible for developing and executing the Research and Development projects and activities for a broad range of existing cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and natural health products as well as ongoing product design and development for new customer requirements and future product offerings. This role involves working closely with the R&D Team to develop and maintain color standards, conducting color tests, and providing recommendations for color adjustments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new and modify existing formulations to meet customer specifications, matching colors to customer standard samples
    Meticulously analyze and match hues for various industries, ensuring consistency across products
  • Executes product development projects from initial concept to commercial launch in a dynamic, high-paced environment.
  • Work closely with the team to develop and test new and existing ingredients, develop, and finalize formulations and pass the stability approval process.
  • Assesses color samples, utilizing colorimetry knowledge, and adjusting formulas to achieve precise color accuracy.
  • Conduct required bench top and/or pilot plant experiments in the development of new products and/or new and existing processes for the experimental plan, conduct experiments and produce documentation.
  • Advise on R&D process for formulations and aids in developing manufacturing procedures with the production team
  • Collaborating with production and design teams to ensure consistency in colour throughout the manufacturing process
  • Perform stability testing including set up and testing for all product types
  • Able to clearly communicate technical information with all levels of the organization
  • Perform strategic monitoring of trends, colors, raw materials or new technologies
  • Actively participate in the continuous improvement and maintenance of the laboratory and its equipment
  • Develop product specifications standard operating procedures, and product formulations
  • Work collaboratively with Purchasing Department and suppliers to source and test ingredients
  • Collaborate with suppliers to source and evaluate new colorants and pigments.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in color matching technology.

General Requirements:

  • Perform all duties in compliance with SOP’s, Work Instructions, GMP’s and all other regulatory policies and guidelines
  • Ensure all decisions are based on quality assurance incorporating GMP and quality controls
  • Prepare and maintain records, as required by SOP’s, related to operations.
  • Develop and Support product testing, where required
  • Develop and Support planning and execution of validation programs, as required

Knowledge, skills and work experience requirements:

  • Excellent vision and perception of colors, textures, and smells.
  • High level of understanding of ingredients and formula portfolios.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize multiple projects effectively and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership skill to ensure cross functional team alignments and timely delivery on related tasks and trainings.
  • Possess knowledge of the practices and principles of GMP/GLP compliance
  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements with respect to development and implementation of new products

Educational requirements:

  • BSc in Chemistry or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in product development or related field. Strong knowledge of manufacturing environment.
