CA Visits with Montreal Member, Groupe Marcelle – A Rich History with Generations of the Cape Family Leading the Way

Posted Date: 12-February-2024

Groupe Marcelle’s roots go back to 1874 in Chicago when C.W. Beggs created the Marcelle product line. In 1933, it was purchased by Dr. Phil Blazer, an allergist who created a pioneering range of skin care products. The Marcelle line was sold and further expanded over the years with Victor Cape, a Montreal pharmacist, becoming the Canadian distributor in 1949. In 1973 Victor and his son Michael Cape purchased the worldwide distribution and manufacturing rights to the products. Today, David Cape is the third generation and current CEO of Groupe Marcelle.

Over the past 50 years, the Cape family has created a group that brings together several product lines and brands, including Marcelle, Lise Watier, Annabelle and C.W. Beggs & Sons, a men’s line launched in 2016 recalling the group’s roots. Today, the Marcelle Group employs hundreds of people who manufacture products in their Canadian facilities that are distributed in thousands of stores across Canada. Over the years, their product lines have been shaped by several entrepreneurs and family business owners who share a common vision of putting science at the service of beauty.
