Prime Minister Carney Announces Parliamentary Secretaries – Newly Elected MP Appointed in 2 Key Ministries for Our Industry

Posted Date: 9-June-2025

Prime Minster Mark Carney announced on June 5th the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries for his new government. Parliamentary Secretaries – although not members of cabinet- assist Ministers in their departments including answering questions in the House of Commons. They can have significant influence with their Ministers depending on their skills, knowledge, and willingness to take on issues.

In two key Ministries for our industry – Health and Environment – both Parliamentary Secretaries were newly elected to Parliament on April 28th. They include Maggie Chi from Toronto’s Don Valley North riding in Health, and Wade Grant from Vancouver Quadra on Environment. CA will be reaching out to both in the coming months.

Of interest to our industry, Toronto area MP Rob Oliphant was appointed Parliamentary Secretary at Foreign Affairs and Winnipeg North MP Kevin Lamoureaux remains as Parliamentary Secretary to the Government House Leader. Both MPs have been helpful to CA over the years.
