Last week, after many obstacles due to COVID-19, Cosmetics Alliance’s new member JW Cosmetics, opened their first retail store in Markham, Ontario.

The owners, Kash Mahmood and Mei Yong Tian had previously owned and operated a tourism company that was greatly impacted due to COVID-19. They were ultimately forced to close the business which led them to follow their dreams of opening a cosmetic retail chain in the GTA.

In the early stages of their planning, they joined Cosmetics Alliance to help connect them to business partners and guide them through the industry. Kash says, “We are so grateful for Cosmetics Alliance Canada and all its brand partnerships for their trust and help.” With a focus on high-quality brands, they managed to successfully establish over 30 brand partnerships.

Construction on the store began in September 2020. They quickly realized how difficult it was to complete the store’s structure due to COVID-related material shortages and had to wait months to receive some of their materials. The lockdown in Ontario also made planning site visits with brand partners a long and difficult process. Due to these factors they were forced to postpone their grand opening several times before finally opening their doors to the public late last week, launching their online store at the same time.

They currently carry over 1000 products in their location and online store. They also offer spa services by licensed Aestheticians and customers can also take advantage of their loyalty points system which can be used to get store discounts or free spa treatments.

Currently, their first store is located on Main Street Unionville, and they are focused on opening two other locations within the GTA by the end of the year.

Congratulations Kash and Mei!
