Developing Strategies for our Industry as International Trade Order Threatened
CA President Darren Praznik is a guest this week of the U.S. Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) at their annual conference. He is participating in meetings and also attending the winter session of the International Associations Collaboration (IAC) which is being held in conjunction with the conference. The IAC is a long-established vehicle for our industry to coordinate internationally our efforts in promoting regulatory alignment, trade, and other issues around the globe. It allows national/regional industry associations such as Cosmetic Alliance to share information, intelligence, and expertise (best use of resources), as well as coordinate advocacy and other matters that helps to ensure that our trade associations are coordinated globally.
The looming tariff war initiated by the Trump administration, which is now spreading beyond Canada and Mexico, is clearly a subject of much discussion in and around the conference as well as will be the focus of the IAC meeting. Meeting in person with key colleagues, including from associations and member companies, is again proving useful for CA as we are addressing the issues effecting our member companies in the current environment of the trade war.
Additionally, Praznik will be joining his colleagues from PCPC and the Mexican association in an in-person meeting to further our joint planning for the re-negotiation of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico (CUSMA) trade agreement which is expected to begin soon. Our three associations are again planning to advance a single common position to the three governments which proved to be a very successful approach in the last NAFTA negotiations a few years ago.
A report on the PCPC annual conference and IAC meeting will be included in our next newsletter.
