Cosmetics Alliance has been notified that Health Canada’s Consumer Product Safety Program has launched its first compliance verification project of 2026. Two member companies in Quebec have already been contacted by Regional Compliance & Enforcement Officers.
Project Scope:
- Testing for compliance with Methyl Eugenol restrictions as per the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist.
- Addressing any labeling non-compliance identified during the inspection.
- Health Canada will select products from your portfolio and typically arrange for sample collection at your facility within one week of contact.
Member Action Plan & Key Considerations: If contacted, we recommend the following steps to ensure due diligence:
- Document all batch/lot numbers, quantities, and dates of exchange.
- Request the return or recorded destruction of unused samples post-testing.
- Confirm the specific testing methods and sampling design Health Canada intends to use.
- Retain a “mirror” sub-sample from the same lot for independent internal analysis.
- We advise having legal representation present during sample collection to guide your engagement.
Our Ask: If you are contacted, please notify the CA Regulatory Team at regulatory@cosmeticsalliance.ca. Sharing your results with us (in confidence) helps us support the broader membership.
