Revisions to the Food and Drug Regulations were published on June 17, 2026 in Canada Gazette, Part II, Volume 160, No. 12 – Regulations Amending Certain Regulations Made Under the Food and Drugs Act (Shortages and Discontinuation of Sale of Drugs and Medical Devices).

Of imporance to our membership and the types of products we represent at Cosmetics Alliance, non-prescription drugs continue to be exempt from the shortage reporting.  These regulatory amendments do, however, allow the Minister to add drugs that belong to a class of drugs to a list (List of Drugs for the Purposes of Paragraphs (b) and (c) of the Definition drug.  Thereby allowing the government to act in cases where certain types of non-prescription drugs not included in the scope of the regulations, may be added when required.

These regulations also incorporate medical device shortage and discontinuation reporting obligations for medical devices.
