The Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD) provided an update on the List of Interchangeable Terms. The List of Interchangeable Terms was originally published in November 2025, will be updated on August 20. The List defines acceptable equivalent terms that can be used on labels for natural health products (NHPs) and specific non-prescription drugs (NPDs). Updated in response to stakeholder feedback, the revisions aim to broaden applicability, lower administrative burden, and offer greater labeling flexibility. Key changes include allowing interchangeable terms to be applied to NHP claims, extending this flexible approach to low-risk List D NPDs (products used on the skin or in the mouth) that follow Health Canada monographs, and clarifying that the table of terms provides non-exhaustive examples for NHPs and List D NPDs. Stakeholders are encouraged to continue sharing suggestions as part of ongoing efforts to improve available tools and streamline administrative processes.
