The Cosmetics Europe Annual Conference was followed by a day long meeting on June 18 of the International Associations Collaboration (IAC). The IAC represents some 30 cosmetics industry associations and international companies from across the globe. It serves to effectively coordinate and align our industry’s efforts on common issues (e.g. animal testing bans, micro-plastics, etc.), share limited resources and expertise, and proactively advance key industry objectives, thereby providing enhanced value to our member companies.
The group meets three times annually – in-person in conjunction with the conferences of the U.S. Personal Care Products Council (winter) and Cosmetics Europe (early summer), followed by a virtual meeting in the fall. The group also conducts web-based working group meetings throughout the year. The chair and secretariate rotates among member associations with the South Korean Association currently filling these roles. Cosmetics Alliance Canada has previously served in this role.
This latest IAC meeting on June 18 in Brussels included 21 trade associations from across Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America and many representatives from member companies of Cosmetics Europe.
During the meeting CA’s Beta Montemayor tabled a New Project Proposal related to Plastic Packaging & Waste which we are happy to report was endorsed for initiation. Beta also proposed that the group consider a second new project related to Sunscreen Testing. The group agreed to continue discussion around the potential scope of a new project related to sunscreen testing.
In addition, Beta provided an important update on Health Canada’s breakthrough Ministerial Exemption Order for Low-Risk “Cosmetic-Like” Drug Actives and Products, and the opportunities it presents for innovation and investment. Beta noted how this Ministerial Exemption Order is the result of CA’s long time advocacy efforts towards Regulatory Modernization, fits within the Government of Canada’s Red Tape Reduction agenda, and is viewed as a significant win.
