Bulletin 10: Natural Health Products Labelling Regulations Compliance Extension

Health Canada has published Bulletin 10 which announced plans to introduce greater flexibility into the Natural Health Product (NHP) labelling regulations in response to implementation challenges raised by industry stakeholders. Originally, under the 2022 amendments aimed at making health labels clearer and more legible, newly licensed products were required to meet strict new guidelines by mid-2025, while existing products had a transition period until June 21, 2028. However, ongoing stakeholder feedback revealed that companies particularly those with complex formulations or extensive warning statements struggled to fit all the required information onto their product packaging without severely compromising readability. In response, Health Canada previously aligned all compliance deadlines to the June 2028 date and is now committing to further regulatory amendments under its Red Tape Reduction initiative. These upcoming changes will explore alternative, simplified formatting rules and the expanded use of digital labelling, with draft regulations targeted for publication in Spring 2027 that will include a brand-new, extended transition timeline determined in consultation with the industry.
