As noted in our last Regulatory Essentials, the Government of Canada has amended the Section 46 Notice for the Federal Plastics Registry, postponing reporting deadlines for Phases 2 and 3 and committing to further consultation.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is hosting a series of virtual workshops to gather stakeholder input and priorities for the first step in this consultation.
The workshop series will run over the next two weeks and cover the following topics:
Workshop #1 – Modifications to the scope of waste generator requirements
Workshop #2 – Reporting on filled and unfilled packaging, including secondary and tertiary packaging, and alignment with provincial reporting
Workshop #3 – Modifications to the scope of service provider requirements
Workshop #4 – Definitions and categories, including producer reporting requirements and exemptions
Please note that this is a series of standalone workshops—participants are not required to attend all sessions and may choose those most relevant to their organization. Additional sessions may be scheduled if interest exceeds capacity.
Members can sign up for the workshops of interest using this Form. You will see that some workshop dates overlap with our Spring Regulatory Workshop, next week. CA Canada is working to ensure representation at each session and will share key updates with members. Members are strongly encouraged to participate directly. Your organization’s input is critical, as you can provide practical, operational perspectives that will help inform government decision-making.
Please indicate your interest in the sessions through the Form by April 8, 2026.
If you have any further questions, you can contact the department at RFP-FPR@ec.gc.ca or your CA regulatory team at regulatory@cosmeticsalliance.ca.
