The Minister of the Environment, under the authority of the CEPA, has negotiated Environmental Occurrences Notification Agreements with Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Yukon.
The goal of these agreements is to streamline the reporting of environmental emergencies (like spills) by allowing provincial/territorial 24-hour authorities to receive initial notifications and then transfer the information to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). This is intended to reduce duplication for reporting entities.
These proposed agreements are open for a 60-day public consultation that started Saturday, October 18, 2025. Cosmetics Alliance will not be taking part in this consultation.
