Resins and Rosins Group:

fSAR

  • One substance in the group, tall oil, meets one or more of the criteria set out in section 64 of CEPA, specifically on the basis of risk presented by CTO (crude tall oil) and that the other 11 substances in the Resins and Rosins Group do not meet any of the criteria set out in section 64 of CEPA.
  • There are INCI designations for tall oil and the CEPA-toxic designation is generic and does not distinguish between scenarios of concern versus those that were determined not to present a risk and therefore there may be a risk for inappropriate stigmatization of the chemical

Proposed RMA

  • the proposed risk management measure focuses on potential releases of CTO from its incidental co-production in the kraft pulping process.

SNAc provisions for TMTD

  • There are INCI designations for TMTD and is likely of interest.
  • The main industrial sector with exposure sources of concern is the rubber products manufacturing sector; therefore, the proposed Code of Practice would be applicable to this sector.
  • The new activity is any activity other than the uses identified and is not a zero volume SNAc (permits the manufacture/import/use up to 100 kg/year before provision of data is necassary.
  • NOT a zero volume SNAc – permits manufacture/import/use up to 100 kg/yr before provision of data is necessary

fSAR for p-toluenesulfonic acid

  • It is concluded that the substance does not meet any of the criteria set out in section 64 of CEPA.

fSAR for sucrose acetate isobutyrate

  • It is concluded that the substance does not meet any of the criteria set out in section 64 of CEPA.

Risk assessment framework for nanomaterials

  • This document establishes a framework for the risk assessment of nanomaterials under CEPA for existing and new materials.
  • The webpage on nanomaterials has been updated to inform stakeholders on the regulation of nanomaterials under CEPA and related activities.
  • web page. This includes information relevant to nanomaterials subject to the New Substances Notification Regulations (Chemicals and Polymers) as well as nanomaterials listed on the DSL.
