Danger to Human Health Safety Assessment for Button Batteries

If your business have personal care and/or cosmetic devices this consultation maybe of interest to you. Health Canada has published a 60-day public consultation ending on January 22, 2026 regarding the potential danger to human health or safety posed by products containing button/coin batteries and their packaging. Health Canada has added these items to Table 2 of the General Prohibitions process, which lists classes of consumer products associated with assessed hazards. This action is not a ban; products that already comply with the proposed safety criteria will remain available. Health Canada is seeking stakeholder comments on its danger assessment. Based on the feedback received, Health Canada will determine whether to move the products/packaging to Table 3 (signifying a danger to human health or safety requiring action) or close the file while continuing to monitor the hazard. Cosmetics Alliance will not be taking part in this consultation unless interest is shown by membership, please email regulatory@cosmeticsalliance.ca.
