With the upcoming publications on risk assessments targeted for January-March 2023, we are providing the DSARs of the targeted substances, a list of the product types that contain each substance as well as the CEPA conditions of each substance from the DSAR.

These compounds are found in foods, as well as possible use in nail adhesives. Furfuryl alcohol is used as a flavour enhancer according to the NHPID. Furfuryl alcohol and tetrahydrofuran meet the criteria under paragraph 64(c) of CEPA.
2-Imidazolidinethione also known as ethylene thiourea (ETU) is not found in non-prescription drugs, natural health products or cosmetics according to the DSAR. The substance did not meet any of the criteria of section 64 of CEPA.
Substances within this group are found to be present in food additives, found within the NHPID as medicinal and non-medicinal ingredients and cosmetics. The DSAR indicated that free cyanide and precursors of free cyanide meet the criteria under paragraph 64(a) of CEPA.
Substances within the Ethers group are found within personal care products, medicinal or non-medicinal ingredients in disinfectant, human or veterinary drug products, medicinal or non-medicinal ingredients in licensed natural health products and cosmetics. The DSAR concluded that none of the substances in the Ethers Group met the criteria of Section 64 of CEPA.
Some residual caprolactam monomer may be present in manufactured articles made with Nylon 6. Nylon 6 has been notified to be present in cosmetics, however caprolactam as an individual substance was not notified to be found in cosmetic products in Canada. Caprolactam did not meet any of the criteria under section 64 of CEPA.
