Letter to the Prime Minster – CA Asks to Enhance Trade Competitiveness Aug 8 2025
This letter was recently sent by CA President Darren Praznik to Prime Minister Mark Carney. It outlines 5 proposed actions the government could immediately take to support domestic manufacturing of our industry’s products, increase trade with trusted trading partners, promote innovation, and improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of regulation in our sector.
These proposals are consistent with the government’s election commitments, mandate letter, new directions in trade policy, and the “red tape” reduction initiative coordinated by the Treasury Board – all which aim to strengthen the Canadian economy amidst the challenging times facing our country.
By way of context, the Prime Minister recently launched an internal challenge to departments to come up with proposals to meet these important government objectives, particularly reductions in “red tape”. CA wanted to ensure that our specific asks were seeded into this process at the highest level and provided with a the full context of their importance beyond just “red tape”.
The proposed actions are all matters that CA has previously raised with the various departments involved (e.g. Health Canada, Environment Canada). All Ministers whose departments share some responsibility or interest in our ‘asks’ have been copied on the letter which is also being shared with key departmental officials with whom CA works.
