On March 8, 2025, The Risk Management Approach for 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) and its precursors, including the substances in the benzothiazoles subgroup and the benzotriazoles subgroup was published. Based on the moiety approach, MBT and its precursors, including the substances in the benzothiazoles subgroup (but not the benzotriazoles subgroup), meet the CEPA Section 64 criteria for listing on Schedule 1, Part 2 of CEPA. None of these substances are listed in the INCI database. Product/sector specific actions to address ecological concerns are expected to impact tire and rubber products, metal working fluids and some mining industry subsectors.
