March 12, 2025, the Orders and the Regulatory Impact Analysis Statement were published for the accelerated scheduling of fentanyl precursor and carisoprodol to Schedule V of the CDSA. The Order Amending Schedule 5 can be found here and the Order Amending Part III of the Schedule to Part J of the Food and Drugs Regulations can be found here. The Order for phenethyl bromide and carisoprodol comes into force on April 14, 2025. The Order for benzyl chloride and propionic anhydride comes into force on May 29, 2025. These are not expected to impact CAC members. The levels of benzyl chloride used in our industry should fall under the class exemption, of <30%.
