The TGA has released new advice for sunscreen sponsors and manufacturers following concerns about variability in Sun Protection Factor (SPF) test results. The guidance focuses on the sufficiency of evidence and the selection of testing laboratories.
While AS/NZS 2604 (requiring the ISO 24444 in vivo method) remains the regulatory baseline, the TGA will now accept supplementary evidence from newer, more reproducible in vitro methods—ISO 23675:2024 and ISO 23698:2024.
