Phytonadione epoxide (Vitamin K1 oxide)

On June 25, 2026, the EU’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) was mandated to evaluate the safety of phytonadione epoxide (vitamin K1 oxide) at a maximum concentration of 1% in cosmetic products, following a May 2025 call for data. The review focuses on potential health risks linked to the ingredient’s sensitizing properties, particularly in leave-on products formulated for sensitive skin areas, while also prompting the SCCS to highlight any additional scientific concerns. The committee has 12 months to issue its opinion.
