Danger to Human Health Safety Assessment for Button Batteries

On July 2, 2026, Call2Recycle Canada announced the launch of a new collection and recycling initiative for battery-powered products in Québec as an expansion of its existing Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program. This first-of-its-kind initiative is designed to handle the growing environmental and safety challenges posed by everyday consumer items with embedded or removable batteries—such as toys, tools, smoke detectors, personal care devices, e-bikes, and vapes. Leveraging Call2Recycle’s 15-plus years of battery management experience in the province, the turnkey solution helps manufacturers, retailers, and consumers safely dispose of these products while complying with Québec’s 2022 Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulatory amendments. The program is being rolled out in close collaboration with RECYC-QUÉBEC and the Centres de formation en entreprise et récupération (CFER), utilizing a network of local partners to manage provincial logistics, sorting, and processing.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to regulatory@cosmeticsalliance.ca.
