Health Canada and Environment and Climate Change Canada hosted a Chemicals Management Plan (CMP) webinar on January 29, 2026. The session provided an update on CMP activities.
Your CA Regulatory team participated in the webinar, which included updates on numerous initiatives such as the Right to a Healthy Environment framework, the Plan of Priorities, the Watch List, PFAS, and proposed changes to the New Substances Notification (NSN) program. The departments also outlined their planned consultation process for developing criteria to add substances to Part 1 of Schedule 1 of CEPA and discussed the integration of Red Tape Reduction considerations into program modernization efforts.
A key highlight of the webinar was a prototype demo of the modernized CEPA Registry substance search tool. The tool consolidates 18 substance lists into a single, user-friendly interface. This consolidation and move towards a single searchable tool is an improvement that Cosmetics Alliance Canada, and other stakeholders, have long requested. The department will be inviting stakeholders to test the tool. CA Canada will be engaged in this activity, both individually and with our association partners.
Testing the substance search tool and the publication of several significant CMP documents are planned for 2026, which will keep stakeholders very busy. CA Canada will monitor publications and coordinate responses through its technical committees throughout the year. Now is a great time for members to join a technical committee, if you haven’t already. It is an ideal opportunity to get involved and help shape our engagement.
