Opportunity to Nominate Chemicals for National Human Biomonitoring

NNHPD – NHPID Updates

Health Canada, together with other federal partners, conduct ongoing human biomonitoring to understand Canadians’ exposure to environmental chemicals. A key component is the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) a national, repeated cross-sectional survey led by Statistics Canada with Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada.

The CHMS collects health information along with blood and urine measurements of chemicals from a representative sample of Canadians. Results are available through the Canadian Biomonitoring Dashboard, as well as published reports and fact sheets. These data establish baseline exposure levels, track trends over time, and support research, policy development, and regulatory decision-making.

Currently Health Canada has made available the opportunity to participate in a survey intended to collect input on environmental chemicals of interest for biomonitoring in people living in Canada. Input will be used to plan future national human biomonitoring studies and surveys, including the CHMS.  A link to the survey can be found here. Cosmetics Alliance Canada has no current plans to engage in this nomination process. If members are interested in nominations, we could consider advancing a nomination, following appropriate consultation with the broader membership. Please reach out to your CA regulatory team at regulatory@cosmeticsalliance.ca with any suggestions or rationale for proactive engagement.
