This week, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) announced that the Integrated Chemical Mixtures Project (ICMP) web-site is live. Launched in 2023, the ICMP is an initiative to investigate chemical mixtures in the environment. The project studies air, water, soil, sediment, wastewater, wildlife, and other biota, generating data that supports the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP) and the right to a healthy environment under CEPA.
ICMP is currently focused on southern Ontario, including the Brantford/Grand River and Sarnia/St. Clair River regions, where researchers from ECCC and partner universities collect and analyze samples to understand chemical mixtures and their impacts on wildlife and ecosystems. The project also works closely with Indigenous communities, local organizations, industry, and other government partners. Currently, ICMP encompasses over 20 active research projects covering topics from PFAS exposure in birds to aquatic toxicity studies and air pollution impacts on wildlife. You can access the full project list here.
