Update on Monograph Initiative

Posted Date: 7-October-2025

REMINDER - Federal Plastics Registry Phase 1 Reports Due September 29, 2026

The updated monographs, published on September 26, 2025, primarily focuses on safety revisions related to the potential risk of hepatotoxicity from certain natural health products. Specifically, monographs for Turmeric/curcuminoids and Garcinia/hydroxycitric acid were revised to include new liver-related risk information based on Summary Safety Reviews (SSR). Beyond safety, the updates include several clarity improvements, such as replacing the undefined duration of use statement “Ask a health care practitioner for prolonged use” with specific durations and revising other durations of use from months to weeks (e.g., in Joint health products). Key monographs, including Antioxidants, were updated to ensure safety, such as removing the fresh equivalent option for Solanum tuberosum (potato) and requiring it to be cooked due to allergenicity concerns. Finally, a new delayed-release dosage form, ‘Capsule, soft, enteric-coated’, is being added to the NHPID and several oil and probiotic monograph.
