Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) sent a reminder to industries that Federal Plastics Registry (FPR) reports for the 2025 calendar year are due Septembre 29, 2026.
Reporting for Phases 2 and 3 has been postponed; however, Phase 1 reporting remains mandatory for organizations that meet the reporting criteria. Further information is available on the FPR website.
Phase 1 covers plastic packaging, both filled and unfilled, electronic and electrical equipment, and single-use or disposable plastic products destined for the residential waste stream. Members should review their obligations, including the producer definition and any applicable exemptions. The thresholds relate specifically to the weight of plastic, rather than the total weight of the packaged product.
Members required to report should gather the following information:
- Business information: Business number, address, contact details and six-digit NAICS codes.
- EPR and stewardship information: Programs in which the organization participates and the producer responsibility organizations acting on its behalf.
- Plastic quantities: Amounts manufactured in Canada, imported into Canada and placed on the Canadian market.
- Detailed classifications: Quantities broken down by resin type, resin source, product category and subcategory.
- Calculation methods: The method used to determine each reported quantity.
