CA’s Beta Montemayor was a key participate in a recent global workshop focused on enhancing the regulatory acceptance of new assessment methods, such as non-animal testing alternatives, to support next generation risk assesssment.
With the cosmetics and personal care products industry dealing with the emergence of a plethora of animal testing bans around the world – industry safety scientists are well aware of the need to practically apply non-animal testing methods to support human and environmental safety assessments.
Approaches to safety assessments continue to evolve and workshops such as this provide safety scientists with the opportunity to engage directly with governments, animal protection adovcates, and other stakeholders to ensure these new methods are accepted and used in safety assessments and decision making.
Attending this global workshop were leading scientists from Validation Centres, animal protection advocates (including Humane Society International), regulators, academia and industry (raw material suppliers and finished product sponsors). The workshop was an important first step to ensure a coordinated global approach to new assessment methods such as non-animal testing alternative and how best to approach safety assessments in line with animal testing bans.
